This Too Shall Pass...

Under the Juniper Tree Thursday Thoughts of Triumph “Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? — Matthew 6:25-27 NIV This Too Shall Pass… What does it take to make you content in any circumstance? What does it take for you live in peace in a time of chaos? What allows you to go to bed at night and not worry about tomorrow? One command from our Christ - Seek First His Kingdom and His Righteousness, And All These Things Will Be Given To You …. As I sit and think about all that has happened over the last few days, in written form I share the contents of my thoughts. I truly believe that Jesus does not want

The Holidays are Coming! The Holidays are Coming… MFT Thoughts on Managing the Stress of the Season
And Nehemiah said, “I was very much afraid, but I said to the king, “May the king live forever!   Why should my face look sad when the city where my fathers are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?”   (Nehemiah 2: 2b-3) The story of Nehemiah is wonderful picture of how God uses an ordinary “regular” person to do something extraordinary.   Nehemiah was the “cup-bearer” to King Artaxerxes, meaning he tasted the king’s wine to make sure it wasn’t poisoned.   Not a glamorous job by any means!   As the story goes Nehemiah confronted his fear of the king and told the king what he wanted i.e. to return to Jerusalem and help in the rebuilding of the city wall!   The word that comes to my mind when I read this story is -- Leadership .   A friend of mine defines leadership as “ influence ”.   Through Nehemiah’s leadership he influenced a people and a nation and the wall of Jerusalem was rebuilt! If I was to ask you today—“What are you afraid of?”   W

Cvetnic/The Root I n our pressing public discussion about what troubles the souls of black folk, there are times when the conversation can seem phlegmatically black-man-centric. Instead of saying “unarmed black people shot by police,” we accept “unarmed black men ” as the default. Yet we know that black women are being gunned down or brutalized at alarming rates, too. One ugly weekend case

ESPN Analyst and Christian Under Fire For Comments about Openly Gay Player

Chris Broussard is a regular on ESPN and one of the most respected sports journalists in the country.  Now, he is being criticized for being a Christian who feels the right to have his own opinions about being gay and what that means from a Christian perspective. Broussard went on air this week to speak about Jason Collins, an NBA player who just admitted that he is openly gay.  Collins made the announcement as part of an interview with Sports Illustrated, and it’s led to a great deal of debate about gay players in NBA locker rooms. This is the right time for Collins to come out, since the gay lobby has more power than it’s ever had.  Anyone who doesn’t agree with the gay point of view is typically attacked to the point of being fired, and almost always accused of being homophobic. This means that a Christian can easily be fired simply for stating the bible’s views, even if he doesn’t attack any gay person in the process. Speaking on ESPN’s  Outsid
