After 2 weeks, the state of the Miami Dolphins according to Andre
Let me start off by saying that I am an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins even though I happen to have lived in Virginia all my life. I am saddened to see how much this franchise have declined from the late Marino years until now.
As a fan from afar, I subscribed to NFL Sunday ticket in order to support my team on Sunday's or whenever. However, every time the Dolphins play, I get sick to the stomach. Not only because of the lack of performance by the team, but because of the lack of support by the city in which the team plays. I understand that the team has truly underperformed for years, but this city's hangover is ridiculous. I truly believe that when a team is supported wholeheartedly, it cares to give its very best. The local fan base of the Miami Dolphins is a terrible support system. Miami, Florida ,being the tourist attraction that it is, has a plethora of fans from different states who come in and avidly support the visiting team. No wonder, the Dolphins never when at home. Brandon Marshall was asked if leaving town could be a blessing in disguise.
“Hopefully it is, we may be a better road team," he said. "It sucks man because our fans were trying to get things going here in this community and get that spirit back up in our stadium and in our community. You have to win; you have to win at home to do that.
The Dolphins are a "homeless" team and really doesn't have a home team advantage and that's why they are better away from Sun Life Stadium.
That being said,Steve Ross should have cut his losses last year by firing Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano. I truly like Tony Sparano as a person, but I believe that he's in over his head as a head coach. He's an avid fan of the game, but his enthusiasm for the game does not translate well to his coaching of the game. Jeff Ireland is just a glorified scout who is trying to mimic the philosophy of a coach with a history of bailing on his teams. In this league, one cannot win on potential; teams win because of talent. The most important positions on a football team, in my opinion, is an excellent QB and a talented defense. Right now, we have neither. An excellent QB need not have all the talent in the world - example Tom Brady - to win games and a talented defense is able to either generate points or give the offense an opportunity to score points. The Dolphins have some playmakers. Marshall is one at times. Cameron Wake is one at times. But in the last two games, the Dolphins have proven they simply don't have enough playmakers. And the ones they do have, aren't consistent enough.
That's on both offense and defense. That's the fault of the GM - he shops and buys the groceries!
Steve Ross needs to either move the team or fire everyone and start anew since he inherited this regime.
It's the same sad story, year after year, what is a fan to do, when it looks like being a fan is just not worth it?
